Olamitundun Akinjde, the strategic head of Ace Medformatics, a prominent advocacy group in the health information management (HIM) field, has said in a recent interview that the organisation has rapidly become a vital voice advocating for the recognition and advancement of HIM professionals.
She stressed that the organisation was born out of the frustrations experienced by young HIM professionals at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital; Ace Medformatics aims to bridge critical gaps in the healthcare system.
How It All Began
In an interview with HIM Media NG, Mrs. Olamitundun Akinjide shared how the creation of Ace Medformatics was driven by the frustrations faced by HIM professionals.
“During the 2019 COVID-19 pandemic, it became clear that the role of HIM professionals was underappreciated,”. Olamitundun explained.
“Many of us felt invisible, especially during the pandemic. That’s when we realized the need for a platform that could advocate for our profession and bring attention to our critical role in healthcare.”
She further emphasized that the HIM community was often sidelined, despite its crucial contributions to patient care and hospital management. This realization led to the establishment of Ace Medformatics, designed to raise the visibility and value of HIM professionals.
Training Programs Aligned with HIM Needs
To address the challenges faced by HIM professionals, Ace Medformatics launched a series of educational programs aimed at elevating their profile and skills.
The organization offers webinars, workshops, and mentoring opportunities designed to enhance both technical expertise and the public perception of HIM professionals.
How do you ensure your training programs align with current trends and challenges in the HIM field?
Olamitundun explained, “We consistently assess the evolving needs of the HIM sector. Our programs are regularly updated to address the current issues and equip professionals with the latest skills needed in the industry. We aim to provide relevant and timely training that prepares HIM professionals to face the challenges of modern healthcare.”
She also shared that feedback from participants plays a crucial role in keeping the programs aligned with the field’s needs.
“We actively incorporate feedback from our participants to improve and adapt our training sessions for better impact,” she added
